What Is Tajweed?
The word Tajweed comes from the Arabic root jawwada, meaning "to make excellent" or "to perfect." In practice, it is the set of rules that govern exactly how each letter of the Quran should be pronounced — its articulation point (makhraj), its characteristics (sifaat), and how it changes shape next to other letters. Reciting with Tajweed is not a stylistic choice; the majority of scholars consider it obligatory (fard) once a person is capable of learning it, since it is the only way to recite the Quran the way it was revealed and preserved.
Why Tajweed Matters
Every letter mispronounced can quietly change the meaning of a word — which is why correct, measured recitation (tarteel) has always been the standard taught by scholars. A single online session with a qualified teacher can catch mistakes that go unnoticed for years of unsupervised reading.
وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا"And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation."

Certified Through an Authentic Chain (Sanad)
Our Tajweed instructors hold Ijazah — a formal certification passed down through an unbroken chain of narration (sanad) tracing back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This isn't a certificate from a course; it's a scholarly license to teach and correct recitation, verified the same way it has been for over a thousand years.

The Etiquette of Recitation
Tajweed is about more than pronunciation — traditional scholars also teach the adab (etiquette) of recitation: reciting in a state of purity, facing the Qiblah where possible, reflecting on the meaning as you read, and giving the Quran your full attention. Your teacher will gently guide you in these practices alongside the technical rules.
